My First Kiss….Kinda

Key West Florida may seem like one of the many perfect vacation spots. It has many activities for the whole family such as going on a glass bottom boat, jet skiing, fishing, snorkeling, and what else but swimming with dolphins!

A few years back my father and I took a trip to Key West where we stayed an amazing hotel. It had so many activities for every age and never left me bored. My favorite part about this hotel was that it had a enclosed area for swimming with dolphins. This experience was called “The Dolphin Connection.”

Since everyone can’t swim, there is a platform that you can stand on so the dolphins come right up to you. Although there is a platform, you still need to wear a lifejacket just in case. The trainers first call the dolphins up to the platform so they can get used to you. Next, they start telling them to do all these tricks and it’s really cool.

Next, the trainer tells the dolphin to do about three tricks like giving you a high five, kissing the dolphin, and balancing a ball on its nose. Each person got to pick what trick they wanted the dolphin to do. The majority was kissing the dolphin which I choose too. When it was my turn, the trainer called the dolphin to the surface with a special whistle. I was looking around waiting for the dolphin to surface then he popped up right in front of me.

Never before had I kissed a dolphin so I carefully observed everyone else and it seemed fairly easy. As I leaned in to kiss the dolphin I realized how adorable it was. I put my lips on the dolphins snout not knowing what to expect. Even though it was over so quickly it was a really cool experience!
