Want to travel, but don’t have the time, money or energy? Try a local cultural festival! It’s a great way to experience the food, dance, song, art, or people of the world without even leaving your hometown. I know that Teen Travel Talk mainly focuses on actual travel, but let’s face it… that’s not always an option. But, you do always want to have fun, right?!
One wonderful example near my hometown of Columbia, SC is the upcoming Columbia Greek Festival. It is held at a local Greek Orthodox Church in downtown Columbia each year. It is definitely a must-see for people in the area! The festival usually lasts for a few days; this year it is being held September 17-20th. The festival features Greek specialities, live music, dancing, art and craft vendors, and tons of fun. It’s a huge event and widely popular, so if you live in the area, definitely check it out. However, be prepared for long lines… for parking, food, everything. Yet, it is well worth the wait. Trust me, you’ll feel like you’re in Greece without ever leaving South Carolina!

The point is… it doesn’t matter where you live; there are always cultural festivals… And going to a festival is a lot cheaper than airfare! You’ll still be immersed in the culture and have an amazing time.
