ADVENTURE TRAVEL AND BEING ADVENTUROUS WHILE TRAVELING!
There are many types of vacations but none are as powerful as the adventurous type. Adventure is sort of like drug that can hook you like a fish gets hooked onto its line. So instead of sitting on a beach watching the parasailers, be one of the parasailers watching the people on the beach.
We were once in Thailand in Phuket. Phuket is a cool place by itself, however, there are many great things to experience there that are real adventures. At our Marriott Phuket Resort, which was sort of being on a mystical adventure unto itself because it had a sort of Thai Gods Mayan (that’s the mystical folks that used to inhabit Central America and Mexico) theme to it, we experienced many awesome activities. There was an opportunity that few tourists took to go bike riding on local roads with a guide and even to pet elephants (owned and kept by the resort) on the beach! Perhaps my biggest regret was not getting to try the parasailing on the beach in downtown Phuket. Most of the participants where Americans. Just be careful because you must follow the safety precautions recommended and do this with a reliable operator.
Sometimes adventure is found in places that are already awesome onto themselves. Such was an experience we had at the Great Wall in China. Sure, seeing the Great Wall when I was just ten years old was awesome. We hiked a long section of the wall and it was very good exercise. Perhaps the greatest adventure though at the Great Wall of China was the opportunity to go down an Alpine slide when we descended from the wall. We sit on a little sled and slid all the way down the mountain! I will always remember that. If you go to the Great Wall make sure you visit the right section of it to be sure to have this opportunity. Any hotel concierge or tour desk in Beijing will know what you are talking about.
There are many, many adventures in the world. To start you dreaming and thinking, take a look at the following website: spectrav.com. This site is the Specialty Travel Index which shows all of the great travel opportunities that are available throughout the world. Go there and dream!
