The Arrival Of Blackbeard

- Christine

The arrival of Blackbeard, Calico Jack Rackham, pirate Queen Anne Bonny and Captain Jack Sparrow is expected beginning November 26, 2010, continuing through Sunday December 5, 2010. This is to take place in Key West during their 11th annual Pirates in Paradise Festival. This festival is made to attract kids as well as adults. This festival typically brings in hundreds in order to celebrate the island city’s adventurous seafaring history.

This year the festival is scheduled to feature tall ship sailing adventures, a plank-walking championship, living history pirate encampments, a “village thieves” market, a pirate pub, a pirate tour around Key West, an educational tall ship sailing seminar and the recreation of the trial of Anne Bonny and Marry Read who were captured in the early 1700s in the Caribbean Sea.

The tall ships pirate sailing excursions are aboard the Schooner Wulf, which include sunset sails and one can even join Captain Finbar in lighthearted attacks on “land forces” and unsuspecting vessels at the harbor. Those who are interested can participate in the two-day Tall Ship Sail Training Incentive, where you will learn sail-handling along with navigational techniques.

For those who want to meet Blackbeard, Sparrow, and others, can meet them at the Village Thieves Market, Holiday Bazaar and Pirate Pub at Truman Waterfront Commons. This is scheduled for free, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday December 3rd and Saturday and December 4th, along with Sunday December 5th from noon to 5 p.m.
