Do you like basketball? University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

- Ginny

Because I sure do.

In the spirit of the NCAA March Madness Basketball Tournament and my recent acceptance to UNC – Chapel Hill (whose team is currently in the Elite Eight), I thought I would blog about my visit to the school and the town.

Chapel Hill is the quintessential college town, nicknamed “The Southern Part of Heaven”.

Aside from taking a tour of the gorgeous and historical campus,  here are some places that are fun for the whole family! Not just the college-visiting teenager…

Franklin Street- the “Main Street” of Chapel Hill, walk down the street and you will come across boutiques and Tar Heel memorabilia shops. And most notable, award-winning restaurants. Spanky’s Restaurant and Bar is apparently the best, although expensive.

UNC Campus– attend one of the many Tar Heels sporting events and experience the huge amount of Carolina spirit on campus. And of course, you gotta walk over to the Carolina well and take a drink out of the water fountain.

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center- watch the various educational shows and attend the programs that the center makes available for all ages, and learn something new about the solar system!

NC Botanical Garden- visit this gorgeous “conservation garden”, whose mission is “to inspire understanding, appreciation, and conservation of plants in gardens and natural areas and to advance a sustainable relationship between people and nature”. Check out the website!

The best perk about the town, though, is the WEATHER! Although the summers get pretty hot, the winters are pretty mild and spring comes early.

Here’s the ‘visitors’ portion of Chapel Hill Township’s website:
