"the trusted voice of teens who travel"
January 8th, 2012
Last Thanksgiving break, my entire family went to Jamaica. We stayed at the all-inclusive Beaches Resort http://www.beaches.com/ in Negril, Jamaica. It was the vacation of a lifetime because there were 23 of us there, including my grandparents, all my aunts and uncles, and all of my cousins. I don’t see many people doing that these days.
When we arrived at the resort and got settled in, we all were very excited for the five days ahead of us. There were so many things to do in the resort. The resort was huge! It had 2 water slides, swim up bars, restaurants, hot tubs, a lazy river, a gorgeous beach, and two volleyball courts (one in the pool and one on the beach). There was also a teens’ club which had many activities throughout the day and night. We also took advantage of all they had to offer in the water sports department. We had unlimited use of waterskiing, wake boarding, banana boat rides, catamarans and water bicycles. They also had a glass-bottom boat ride daily and scuba-diving. The staff was so friendly and helpful –especially the entertainment staff. They really got the crowded moving and grooving at the beach party!
One day we charted a private glass bottom boat to take us to a place called “Rick’s Café”. Rick’s is a place where you can jump off cliffs from various heights (ranging from 15 to 60 feet) and explore the caves below. I jumped from the 35 foot level. It was so scary! It took me 20 minutes just to get the guts to do it. When I jumped, it felt like you were just falling and would never reach the water. The surprising thing was that you didn’t get that feeling in your stomach like you get on a roller coaster. It was so cool and fun that I jumped twice! That was the highlight of my vacation.
I had a great opportunity to go parasailing again (this was my second time). Instead of going up with my sisters, this time I went up with my older and younger cousins, James and Jonathan. It was really cool because you could see through the water and all of the tall trees all over Jamaica. We even saw a snorkeler in the water! It was really special to hang out with my cousins high in the sky. It was so peaceful and you could only hear the wind and the sound of your own voices. It was a great time to appreciate what the island looked like from a bird’s eye view and how beautiful it was. I am glad I got to share it with my cousins.
We have so many great memories from this resort http://www.beaches.com/ This was a very special vacation because it was all for my grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary. With all 13 kids and 10 adults, this will be a tough vacation to beat. This was the best vacation ever!
