"the trusted voice of teens who travel"
January 30th, 2013
Let’s say that you’re a stereotypical North Jersey family looking for something fun to do on the weekend without much travel time or expense. The Jersey shore is a little too far, New York is a bit too pricey…what to do? While some may overlook it, the New Jersey Meadowlands is a breadbasket of fun and activities for everyone in the family to enjoy.
For the young ones and the young at heart, Medieval Times in Lyndhurst is a great way to spend a little time eating, relaxing, and watching a (really exciting!) medieval knight performance. Also for the young and the curious, the Liberty Science Center is a fascinating science museum located in Jersey City with many hands-on exhibits and larger-than-life IMAX movies.
Any sports enthusiasts? The New York Giants MetLife stadium is also local to the area and games, when in season, can be watched. Next to the stadium is the IZOD center where popular music acts and other sporting events can be attended.
However, if you would rather spend the day in the interesting ecosystem that is the Meadowlands, stop by the interactive Meadowlands Environmental Center or take a boat ride on the Hackensack River. In addition, if New York still beckons, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island tours leaving from New Jersey are also offered. (Note that in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, these icons are temporarily closed. Check before you go.
There really is something for any member of a family to participate in and enjoy. Check out the rest of the leisure attractions in the Meadowlands at: https://mlcvb.com.
