"the trusted voice of teens who travel"
June 5th, 2013
Growing up in New Jersey, I have made many trips to the Poconos. I am always overwhelmed by how much there is to do in the Shawnee Mountain area all year long.
Kick off your summer with Shawnee’s annual fireworks on July 5th! From 7 to 10 PM, celebrate Independence Day with delicious food, a live DJ, and of course fireworks! Vendors with all kinds of crafts and delicacies will be present as well. This night will ensure a good time for the whole family.
This August there will be the 3rd Annual Shawnee Mountain Mud Run, where hundreds gather on the 17th for a 5k mountain trail run. There will be a Mini Kidz Run, as well as raffles and a barbecue following the running festivities. If you want to partake in this race, register fast! In previous years it has sold out.
Earlier that week, on the 11th of August, will be the 18th Annual Pocono Chicken Wing Off, rain or shine! There will be wings, beverages, and other food to buy, as well as free music and entertainment! The wing event will have over 45 varieties of wing sauces displayed and ready to be enjoyed.
Launch autumn with the PRCA Rodel & Chili Cook-off on September 21st and 22nd. From 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM, professional cowboys will be in town to compete in different events, such as bull riding, calf roping, bull dogging, etc. There will be live music and plenty of space to dance, as well as tons of food for everybody to enjoy. Come early and enjoy all the varieties of Poconos’ chili.

For those in the region, you probably have been to the Poconos for skiing. Well, the Mountain is an awesome place to skii, snowboard, snow tube, and have a sweet time. Many have mentioned how awesome this past year has been with snow at Shawnee. This is not just hype, see it for yourself. Bring all your friends, and for cheap with the discounted passes. The deadline for these discounted passes is in September, though, so get them ASAP.
