"the trusted voice of teens who travel"
April 3rd, 2017
Lan Su Chinese Garden, a walled garden in Portland’s Chinatown, is running a Poetry Month.
Classical Chinese gardens bring together aesthetic beauty of all forms, creating an embodied, full-experience for those strolling through the garden. The calligraphy in the garden contains beautiful poetry in the style of Portland’s sister city, Suzhou. The poetry emphasizes, and is centered on, the natural beauty in the garden. The whole garden works together.
An example of the poetry found in this awesome garden:
Shades of bamboo, layers of rock: dark is the pine’s hue.
Slanted the path, crooked the stream: soft is the water’s song.
Throughout this month, there are various poetry-related activities at the garden. There will be a poetry workshop on April 5th for all people, including those who may see themselves as inexperienced or amateurs. The truth is, everybody is a poet. Why not explore your poetic side to be, like the garden, both full, embodied, and harmonious?
